Rebar in concrete retaining wall.
There are a few rules about retaining walls to understand before you pour your first batch of mortar.
If your wall is over 40 feet long it will add 2x the amount of overlap required.
Lap the additional rebar to the adjacent bar for a minimum of 18 inches and secure with tie wire.
Calculate the amount of rebar needed for reinforcing a wall.
If your wall is over 20 feet long it will add the amount of overlap required.
Rebar is placed horizontally and vertically in the wall in a grid pattern.
Pour the footing concrete.
Install the additional lengths of rebar where the vertical rebar uprights need to extend to the top of the concrete block wall.
As a minimum 4 rebar 1 2 inch is spaced vertically at 36 inches on center continued to within 8 inches of the top of the wall placed on the tension side the inside face of the wall.
Retaining walls must be stronger than freestanding walls.
Rebar is placed in walls both vertically and horizontally depending on the type of wall and the forces on it.
As the last step fill the cores around the rebar with mortar from the bottom to top.
Prep your preferred place for the well planned retaining wall and arm yourself with the dos and don ts of retaining walls and you can quickly build a retaining wall that will last for years.
