I had a 2x6 on the flat under the header so i just removed that and cut a half inch off the header. The height of my garage door is 7 i would like to increase the opening to approx. Is there a kneewall above the garage door header or is there floor framing resting directly on the header plate or the header itself. The top of the garage door is at 84 inches the header is 13 inches tall.

The garage door header supports the floor and or roof above. That made my door height two inches taller. A temporary support wall must be built to pick up the load that is on the header. Instead i pulled the truck into the future garage door opening as shown in the drawing.

I removed some siding and and re did the trim on the top of the door and then recovered every thing with aluminum and installed new rubber garage door sill around the opening. Then i slid a couple of 2x6s onto the lower rail directly under the beam.
