Jeff the hardware painting looks great. So that escalated quickly. I spray painted our front door handle about a year ago and the inside circle handle like yours has completely chipped off. I bought new door knobs for nine doors.

Remove all the door hardware to get a neater paint job and save time. After letting the primer dry overnight this wasn t necessary you can paint after 4 hours i spray painted the door handles in the same manner that i primed them. That actually caused bubbles and an uneven surface so second time around i skipped the acrylic. Step 6 spray paint the door handles. I referred to another tutorial that said to spray the knobs with acrylic. However i did purchase beautiful antique brass colored door knobs and handles from walmart. To ensure no fingerprints are left in the paint allow the hardware to dry for 24 hours. Thanks for the detailed painting technique.

I sprayed 3 light coats of oil rubbed bronze on my door. But it would also mean changing out the locks and that would mean replacing the back door hardware as well and probably the garage entry as well. After the primer has thoroughly dried spray hardware with metallic paint 7 the home depot. Fill dents and holes with a sandable filler such as mh ready patch.

I also didn t want to remove the hinges so i painted them the same color as the door with a regular paint brush and the door looks amazing. The door knobs are still beautiful after 4 or 5 years. Areas around door knobs are especially prone to greasy buildup. I have been familiar with the basic process for painting door hardware as we considered doing so with the last house we renovated. Wish i had seen your technique earlier.
